Overview:
Providing Best practice Occupational Health Services to encompass a comprehensive range of Occupational Health activities to our staff. With supervision and support deliver Occupational Health services and training to NHS Western Isles staff. To assist with the day 2to day management of the department by supervising and planning their own daily workload and that of the junior members of the Occupational Health Team.
Main Responsibilities:
These services shall include some or all of the following:- pre-employment/pre-placement assessments
- management referrals, to assist with their management of sickness absence
- Flu vaccines
- immunisations
- venepuncture
- assessing and managing needlestick/ contamination injuries
- fitness for work assessments
- health surveillance assessments
- lifestyle assessments
- health risk assessments
- workplace assessments
- providing education and training
Responsibilities:
Working together with the Senior Occupational Health Nurse to deliver a comprehensive range of Occupational Health Services by coordinating, delegating and supervising the clinical and administrative daily work to junior staff.
Taking responsibility for the completion of specific projects delegated by the Senior Occupational Health Nurse and assist in auditing areas of activity within the service to ensure a consistent quality of Occupational Health Care is maintained.
Assist the Senior Occupational Health Nurse with clinical risk assessment to ensure that all necessary procedures are in place to manage clinical safety effectively within departments and outreach clinics.Supervise and participate in carrying out immunisation programmes, health assessments, health surveillance and monitoring programmes to prevent ill health in the workplace, referring to the Senior OccupationalHealth Nurse or Occupational Health Physician as required, following pre agreed criteria, and advising managers and staff of the outcomes as appropriate.
Providing advice and knowledge to junior members of staff when decisions have to be made out with the agreed level of their competence.
Develop and maintain good working relationships with customers, clients and external agencies to deliver a high standard of Occupational Health Services. Assist and supervise the induction programme for new staff and colleagues. Attending and taking an active role in internal clinical governance and nurse meetings and to implement any actions following these meetings.
Plan and carryout environmental review and risk assessment, thus ensuring that all necessary policies and procedures are in place to manage clinical incidents effectively and safely within the department.
Prepare and deliver training programmes and/or presentations eg induction programmes and others on a variety of specific work related health issues.
Essential
Good concentration is required at all times for observation whilst carrying out health assessments with clients.Good listening and vocabulary skills for communication.
Good report writing skills.
Working knowledge of the client group to enable appropriate levels of communication.
Good supervisory skills to support junior members of the team
Registered Nurse (NMC)
Hold a recognised qualification in Occupational Health Nursing to diploma or degree level
Experience of working within the Occupational Health setting is essential
IT skills – keyboard; using e-mails; internet; basic knowledge of Microsoft office
Ability to travel throughout the geographic area of OHS within the constraints of the contractual hours
